Colorado Department of Public Safety, Colorado Bureau of Investigation, Colorado Broadcasters Association, County Sheriffs of Colorado, the Colorado Chiefs Association and local law enforcement.
Steps for Activation: The new law states that a local law enforcement agency, after verifying an abduction has taken place, notifies the Colorado Bureau of Investigation. CBI then confirms the accuracy of the information and informs KOA, the state’s designated Emergency Alert System station. KOA then issues the alert to radio and television stations and cable systems statewide.
Scope of Amber Alert: Statewide
Criteria for Activation: 1. The child must be 17 years of age of younger.
2. The child must be in immediate danger of serious bodily harm or death.
3. There must be enough descriptive information to believe a broadcast will assist or help in the recovery
4. The activation must be recommended by the local law enforcement agency or jurisdiction
