Connecticut Broadcasters Association, Chief's of Police, Connecticut State Police and local law enforcement.
Steps for Activation: The State Police dispatch center in Middletown automatically sends the information out to about 100 television and radio stations statewide. Broadcasters in turn air the alerts, which are proceeded by the loud buzzing alert noise of the emergency broadcast system used for severe weather announcements. Radio stations will air the alerts once, right after they are sent out, and television stations may show a ticker at the bottom of the screen. Broadcasters also may repeat the alerts through their regular news programming.
Scope of Amber Alert: Statewide
Criteria for Activation: The AMBER Alert will be activated only when police confirm a child under age 16 is taken by a stranger and is at serious risk of injury or death. Police also need to have enough description of the abduction and the child to show that the broadcast might help.
Utilizes Emergency Alert System: Yes.
Reporting Phone Number: People who can provide information to state or local police are asked to call the number given at the end of the message or the state police, at (800) 842-0200.
