The MAILE Alert Plan is a voluntary partnership between the Honolulu Police Department, emergency management agencies, and local broadcasters to notify the public when a child has been abducted and solicit help in locating the child and abductor. |
| Steps for Activation: |
Under the MAILE Alert program, police will notify the public, via the broadcast media and the State Department of Transportations freeway signs, about a child abduction with information on the child, suspect, and suspects vehicle. This information will be sent to broadcasters using the State Civil Defenses emergency alert system. |

| Criteria for Activation: |
The child should be 10 years of age or younger. (Reports involving children between the ages of 11 and 17 will be considered on a case-by-case basis.); there should be sufficient information to indicate that the child may have been abducted and may be in immediate danger of serious bodily injury or death; and there should be sufficient descriptive information about the child, abductor, and/or suspects vehicle to believe that an immediate broadcast alert will help to locate the child and abductor. |
