Steps for Activation: Broadcast stations receive notices via fax directly from the Michigan State Police Amber Alert Hotline. Stations air the information on the Amber Alert notice as often as possible - every fifteen minutes for the first three hours during station ID times and for the following five hours every thirty minutes. Additionally, stations are encouraged to include it in their newscasts every hour for the first 24-hours.

Criteria for Activation: Children under 18 or persons with diminished mental or physical capabilities
Utilizes Emergency Alert System: No

Success Story: On 1/1/02 a mother left her four-year-old son sleeping in the backseat of a running and unlocked vehicle at a 7/11 convenience store near Grand Rapids. The vehicle was car jacked, the Amber Alert was activated and the child was recovered unharmed within 4 hours.
