In 2006, Californian\u2019s voted to pass Proposition 83, otherwise known as Jessica\u2019s Law<\/a>. Among other things Jessica\u2019s Law mandates that, prior to release from prison, violent sex offenders who meet certain offense criteria be evaluated in person by two expert psychiatrists or psychologists. If the experts agree that the prisoner is a violent sexual predator with a high risk of reoffending the prisoner must be referred to the District Attorney for civil commitment proceedings.<\/span><\/div>\n

\n<\/span><\/div>\n
Currently, California\u2019s Department of Mental Health (DMH) Sex Offender Commitment Program <\/a>managers are simply providing a cursory \u2018paper screening\u2019 or record review of potential predators by one mental health professional in lieu of an expert panel in-person evaluation. This violation of California law has thus far dumped more than 17,000 potential sexual predators back into society.<\/span><\/div>\n
In 2007, convicted rapist Gilton Pitri <\/a>was released as a result of a \u2018paper screening\u2019 and within 4 days kidnapped, raped, and murdered 15-year old Alyssa Gomez.\u00a0 Petri is currently awaiting trial for Alyssa\u2019s murder.<\/span><\/div>\n

Are you as outraged as I am that California\u2019s DMH is ignoring the law at the expense of public safety? If so, make your voice heard at the ballot box.<\/span><\/div>\n
